Kid’s Event at Covent Market for Jamie Oliver Food Revolution Day

What a wonderful morning it was at Covent Market Saturday May 19,2012. All of this to declare our love for Jamie Oliver and what he stands for in promoting real food!  As the organizer of the event, I could not be prouder or happier that the morning was PERFECT!

Growing Chef’s was the primary reason for the wonderful morning! They know exactly how to get kids excited about real food and they do this in school’s around London Ontario all the time! I highly recommend if you are in Ontario or BC that you look  at this non – profit up and support them in what they are doing!

Andrew Fleet ran this event with precision skills. Volunteers were everywhere ready to assist kids in creating their Mood on the face of a Green Pepper, Tomato or Apple! Kids were running to Mom and Dad to show them what mood their veggie or fruit was in and wanted to make more than one! I took pictures for the time I was in the room and I loved the gentle vibe of excitement. Kids were colouring, playing in dirt and planting seeds in Egg cartons. Kids from the ages of 2 – 12 were engaged and enjoying what they were doing. I will always be grateful to Andrew Fleet for being a part of this day, I can’t imagine a food revolution event without him now!

We set the bar high for a first event!!

Britown Music and Brian Nelles are good friends of mine. My daughter Megan is taking vocal lessons with Britown music and I can say that they have been a big part of helping Megan find some of her self confidence again. Brian brought a group of his talented students to perform for the kids and their parents during the kids event on Saturday. I was blown away by the talent that this group of students had and I highly recommend Britown music for getting your kids interested  in Music and have fun doing it! http://www.britownmusic.ca/

Listening to some of these students there is no way you would think they were pre-teens or teens. They sounded professional and I could see that the parents and kids were enjoying the entertainment.

The next performer was Deni Gauthier , Deni was introduced to me through my friend Brandon Krieger in Toronto. I have followed him on Facebook and Twitter for a year. I have listened to his music and have been very impressed.  I asked him if he would be interested in performing at the Food revolution and he was thrilled to be a part of it! I had to break away from the kids event to join the parent session on keeping our kids healthy next door but I could hear Deni loud and clear while i was engaged in conversation with parents! You sounded amazing Deni and I hope this was a good experience for you!!  Check out Deni’s website here!

I also want to thank Erin Neely, Christine Taleski, Alex Clermont and Megan Clermont for being great volunteers for the kids event! I hope you each enjoyed a moment helping the kids enjoy playing with dirt and their fruits and veggies!

This was the start of an amazing day and I think the best part!

Media Attention for my first Jamie Oliver Food Revolution Event!

The decision to become an ambassador for the Jamie Oliver Food Revolution Day was not a decision I took lightly. If I was going to put my name on an event to get people back in the kitchen I needed it to be amazing! I was very blessed with exceptional volunteers that I will never forget! They were incredible and I will definitely be doing more events and they are always welcome to be part of events I will continue to host!

One of the most amazing things was the attention that what I was doing was getting me! People were interested in talking to me about this and getting the word out!

I was interviewed for Fanshawe College Student Union First! Thanks Erika! This was my very first time being interviewed for any article!!

Then I met one of my favorite people that I have encountered in London Ontario so far! Sean Meyers of the London Community News and that interview was shared with my wonderful volunteer Christine Taleski!

Then I was contacted by Am980 news in London asking for an interview on Thursday on the John Biggs Show on CJBK 1290 AM

I loved this interview which I did on the way back to London from a trip to Toronto with my team at work! 2 of my favourite co workers Greg and Keith were in the car with me and I do think this was my best interview!

I am beyond thankful that everyone cared enough to do these interviews and articles! That was more than I could have ever asked for with my first event!! Thank you all!!
